Design Project

1.) The challenge presented to us was to design a desk organizer that is
made up of atleast 5 different parts. Then we would put the 5 different
parts into one part to make a final desk organizer. My partner is Drew Maracle

2.) I decided to choose this design brief because it interested me in what i could personally come up with as a desk organizer. It was fun putting this together in the CAD software system and i am glad that i chose this one to work on.

3.) Step one in the design process was easy. We knew the problem was making it the correct size and have variety so it could hold different supplies.
-Step 2 was a little more difficult. We decided to brainstorm on a simple device that would get the job done, and thats when we came up with our design.
-Step four in the process made our job difficult though. We had to make it atlesat 5 seperate pieces, and the pieces couldnt be that big. Thats why we decided to do boxes all the same size with different designs on each of them.
-Step 12 of the process was fun. I got the oppurtunity to communicate my results to my teacher and show him what i have put together. He said my project worked out and it wasnt a bad design, it was excactly what i wanted to hear because those words meant that my desk organizer passed.

4.) 3 images of our prior images that we might have gone with::

This first image is a desk organizer that we came up with. It involves a ring with seperate organizers on the ring. You would be able to spin this around to acquire different things from each box.

This was our second design for our desk organizer. This involves having a door on the side and two triangle doors, also with a curved door for optimal space.

This was another design that we implemented which included having 5 seperate desk drawers connected by bars in which u could ultimately open up any door and get whatever you needed.

Came from WIRED magazine of July 2010 on the back cover

The advertisement is a Mercedes Benz that is their new model for sale

-As a team, discuss each of the advertisements selected. Record both team members observations for the advertisement you've selected. Analyze the add using the following Message Analysis considerations:

Message Content- My add is over a new model for Mercedes-Benz that came out and the information tells us the speed and what the car is. It has precise information.

Size and Shape - My car add is a very good size picture of the new car it is centered in the page so your eyes captures it.

Readability - The readability on my add is okay, the font is a little small and maybe excess info. It does state some pretty cool facts about the car.

Needs the Audience - This does appeal the audience and it attracts the male audience, probably the wealthy part because it is a very new and nice Mercedes car.

Use of Proven Principles and Elements - The add of the car shows the form of the car and the texture by using light in its photo. The page has balance with just enough writing and a good picture. The add takes up a good amount of space with not a lot of open.

1. What are trends? Why is it important to identify them prior to graphic design?
    - A trend is fashion or items that are popular at the moment in the world or a community, its important to identify them before your graphic design because you want to sell something that is popular at the time, not something popular a while ago.

2. How does human nature play a role in how a product is marketed to a specific demographic group?
    - Its important to advertise your product in the right place or add because the car is in a more men towards magazine and guys are generally more into cars than women. It wouldn't be smart to put women's clothing in a men's magazine.

3. How is a potential audience identified?
    - An audience is identified by their characteristics such as their age, income, job and fashion trends.

4. What must you discover about the target audience prior to graphic design?
    - You need to discover what your audience is into and what they like. You need to find out what they are willing to pay for a certain item.

Gamification

So is gameing and not just that but just our life and visual wonders becoming more realistic then fantasy?

-I have to say yes to this because in gaming from a personal experience has always been fantasy but even if it is non fiction there is always that need for realistic things wether it be real gory blood or voices the games for example MODERN WARFARE 2 based on real wars real places just REAL REAL REAL!

Will these video game or points systems help or destroy us as a society?

-Well he said that a famous video game director created a system for his grading instead of the A B C method he bases it on achievent point which seemed to create a boost in attendence class particpation homework turn in etc. so it seem to help in some way i personally think in some way maybe but also no

Are these simple products selling billions focused more on the phscological factor or visual?

-he says thats all these simple products like stuff bears are focused on the imaginative friend so mind tricks type think not based on how cool it look or how fun it looks more on how it is being advertised is how its selling if it based more on looks not doing so well but tricking the mind and using some phycological factors the products are selling threw the roof i personaly have no idea or opinion so i dont know what to say!

3) Locate five items at home or at school that utilize the elements and principles of design. Post an image of each product. List and explain any visual design elements or principles that are evident in that product
\
 1. The represents one of the visual designs of elements, there is a lot of space in the room. This could be at home.

2. This house represents lines, this is house is supposed to represent my house, it is one of the 6 visual designs of elements

3. This picture has a lot of color and some of the colors are warm and some are cool colors, this is one of the six visual designs of elements. This could be at the school or my house.

        4. This represents rhythm of music which is one of the 5 principles of design, This is on my piano at home.

5. This is texture and is one of the 6 components of visual design, this is the same texture as our toolbox at home.
1) What are the 6 Visual Design Elements we discussed in class?
-line                           -space
-color                        -texture
-form/shape               -value
2) What are the 5 Visual Design Principles we discussed in class?
-balance            -proportion and scale

The cruise ship Elation sits docked at the San Diego Cruise ship Terminal May 3, 2009 in San Diego, California. A number of ships have had to divert their passengers to San Diego instead of Mexico destinations because of the Swine Flu. This is a picture of the cruise boat that was docked in San Diego.

What was the nature of the problem the ship experienced?

-They as far as i know had some engine failure while at sea!

What repairs were required?

-They had to do some work on the engine but not only that but also the engine room which they had to move the ship out of coronado and up the coast to San Fransico

What impact did the unnexpected arrival of the cruise ship have on the local economy?

-I dont really think it effected it much just maybe alittle for the hotels with the whole crew and members that need a place to stay for awhile!
